The Traitress (Die Verräterin)

One hundred years ago today, Urban Gad’s film Die Veräterin, (The Traitress) staring Asta Neislsen was premiered for German audiences. It came to the U.S. a bit later, of course. At the Virginia theater in Washington D.C. it served as the feature entertainment from Wednesday, June 6th through Friday June 8th, 1912. The advertisement below gives us a hint of the exhibitor’s strategy for distinction, specializing in “great foreign productions” such as The Traitress.
