The Woman Behind the Man, directed by Alice Guy Blaché, apparently tells the parallel stories of two couples: the Spendthrifts and the Frugals. You can imagine which ones end up happily ever after. The aim of the story, according to the synopsis in MPW, is to demonstrate “what misery a woman can cause a man if she does not live within his income.
