100 year old articles about the movies published in the El Paso Herald
October 10, 2011
100 years ago today, the El Paso Herald announced it would publish a series of articles on the topic of the moving pictures. This was a fairly bold move for a mainstream newspaper in 1911, as films were still a marginalized art at the time.
I think its interesting that the paper makes a case for the legitimacy of the topic by opening a dollar amount — suggesting that Americans should care about movies because the business is so lucrative.
