The Elk’s Convention at Atlantic City

September 5, 2011

THE (FREDERICK, MD) NEWS (5 September 1911)

Why anyone would want to pay even 5 cents to see a moving picture of an Elks convention when they could go watch part one of Edison’s Three Musketeers adaptation is beyond me. There were likely other short films on the docket at the Pearce Scheck City Opera House in Frederick Maryland 100 years ago, (maybe even the Three Musketeers) but it is telling that they chose to advertise the Elk’s convention in the newspaper that day.

I don’t know … Atlantic City back then was pretty snazzy.
