Life in Country Ponds (Pathe)
Films like Life in Country Ponds, which were promoted to non-theatrical exhibitors (in schools, churches, community centers, prisons, etc.) were not given specific release dates. Here I must acknowledge that the premise for this blog skews the bulk of my posts toward a particular type of film. But this film serves as a nice counter-example, and this full-page advertisement in the English trade journal The Bioscope helps to evidence the fact that educational films were an important part of the industry world-wide (even if they don’t show up here as often as they should).
I’ve not found any evidence of actual screenings of this film in England (though admittedly, I haven’t looked that hard). But I do know that if you were in Wellington, New Zealand in early September of 1912, you could catch a screening at The King’s Theatre, as advertised in the Evening Post of 6 September, 1912, page 2.
